Rock art preservation project in Uganda
The Department of Museums and Monuments in partnership with Trust for African Rock Art (TARA) began a project of preserving the rock art sites in north eastern Uganda and Lolowei island of lake Victoria. In 2010, Rock preservation project was supported with a grant from US Ambassador’s Fund for cultural preservation. The project fund will help in documenting, promoting, empowering community based conservation capacity; prepare conservation plan and dossier for nominating the ancient African rock art paintings of Uganda into the Unesco-World Heritage sites List. The Italian universities of Florence and Tuscia have partnered with Uganda National Museum in documenting and laboratory tests carbon dating the rock art paintings of Nyero.
