The museum has always been ready to help teachers, school children and students. It offers special facilities and the services of trained museum teachers. The aim is to present the museum materials to the pupils and students in form which they will understand and relate the specimens to what is taught in schools. At the same time, it is intended that the museum should stimulate fresh interests in the young people who visit it.
SCHOOL VISITS TO THE MUSEUM
There is more than one way of arranging a visit. A group can be taken on a conducted tour, either of the whole museum or a particular gallery, alternatively, a group can be given an introductory talk around the museum dome and then be allowed to tour the galleries on their own .A group wishing to study certain topics in detail can have a demonstration in which museum objects can be handled and drawn. There is also a regular music recital in which the traditional instruments of Uganda are played and traditional dances demonstrated.
FUTURE PLANS
Plans are being made to loan to secondary schools and teacher training colleges, portable exhibits of museum objects as well as visual aids of various kinds.
Demonstrations and film shows for adults and short courses for teachers will be arranged in the museum auditorium which is already being used for meetings by the Uganda society and other heritage conservation groups.
School children and teachers will be taught how to undertake field work, including the reporting of the discovery of archeological sites and finds and the collection of traditional objects to the museum education officer on the address below
